Your Ob/Gyn will review your overall health with you, and will discuss life-style modifications to help you lower your risk of disease. Your regular gynecological exam should also include a pap smear, pelvic exam, breast exam and (where appropriate) a mammogram. These important tests allow early detection of potential illnesses, permitting your Ob/Gyn to perform prompt diagnosis and treatment.
We diagnose and treat your problems, and, when appropriate, we also perform surgery (potentially including the use of lasers). Many surgical and diagnostic procedures (such as pelvic and vaginal probe ultrasounds) can be conducted in our office.
We recommend that young women start their annual visits between the ages of 13 and 15. The initial visit at this age usually does not involve a pelvic examination. Pelvic examinations are started in order to evaluate certain gynecologic problems or before starting birth control. Your doctor will discuss when to start examinations with you based on your individual needs.
